Transferring files from your local machine into DaDesktop
One of the most requested improvements is the ability to move files from a trainer's own laptop or desktop directly into the DaDesktop environment. These can be slide decks, ISO files for use in a nested virtualisation setup that lets you run multiple servers and desktops, or general files needed for a specific training application.
Our team has rolled out a simple drag-and-drop file transfer feature in the latest Windows 10 and many Linux templates. You can now grab files from your host machine (your own device) and drop them straight into DaDesktop.
At the moment, you can only move one file per transfer, but if you need to send multiple files, just bundle them into a zip archive and drag that over as well. The transfer process breaks files into chunks for efficient delivery and works best with a fast fibre connection. Any folder layout inside the zip is retained.
On Linux templates, we currently don’t place a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder the same way we do on Windows. Instead, your files will appear at:
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
